Elder Richmond
I got sick again yesterday with a fever and I still have it now, so it's been a rough day. This week went pretty well, but nothing fantastic. We found 3 new investigators and have 2 baptismal dates for June 18th. One is for sure and we hope to be able to finish all of the lessons in time for the other. I'm excited for the meeting with Elder Rasband this Saturday!! We will be traveling by plane, so I have gotten very lucky with not having to take the 18 hour bus ride yet, ha ha. I have to go, but I will let you know how the conference goes next week!! Bye!

This week was an interesting one. We had our zone meeting on Wednesday and found out that we have a meeting with Elder Rasband in Bogotá on June 4th!!!!!! I'm so excited!! Then, I went to the ER on Thursday for my companion because he had some huge weird lump in his armpit the size of a golf ball and he couldn't move his arm. Everything went fine and it was just an abscess. He just told me that it was extremely painful when they squeezed everything out. On Friday, we had a service project that ended up lasting all day. We cleaned up a HUGE pile of dirt, rocks, and cement in front of someone's house and put it in their "backyard". On Saturday, we had intercambios and yesterday was church and we talked with the bishop. There are many problems in the ward and let's just say that we have a lot of work to do with the members on top of the investigators, less actives, and recent converts...fun. But I'm kind of used to these things now. My comp and I are chugging along and trying to do as much as we can to help the members and to find more people to teach. I'm hoping that this week will be better than last week and that we will be able to have more lessons. Talk to you next week!
Elder Richmond I don't remember what I wrote last week so hopefully I don't repeat some stuff. Anyway, Colombia celebrated 50 years of the church here on May 11th. All of the missionaries in Cúcuta went to a park, sang a few hymns, had an opening and closing prayer, read the dedicatory prayer from 50 years ago, and then went around and cleaned the park. Me dio pena (Don't remember how to say that) at first to sing hymns randomly in the middle of the park, but it turned out to be really awesome and we were basically preaching in song. The songs we sang were "Hark all ye nations", "Sirvamos unidas" (but changed the words a little, ha ha), and "Now let us rejoice" (it's "ya regocijemos" in Spanish). But it was a really cool experience. We also had stake conference this weekend and President and Sister Laney came. It was great to see then again. Elder Godoy from Perú and of the 70 came and presided. It was an awesome conference! I'm now really bummed that I didn't really go to stake conference at home. But don't worry, I've repented :)
My companion and I are getting along better and that is helping a lot. We were able to find a new family thanks to the open house at the chapel. A member invited them and we are now teaching them. We have another appointment with them tomorrow. We also have a baptism planned for May 28 for Julio Buitrago. He is great and is the father of a family where all are members. We are only missing a few points to teach him and then he will be ready. Oh and I found out that Mothers day here isn't the 4th Sunday of May but the last Sunday of May here in Cúcuta. So, it will be on May 29. I love this gospel and I know it is true. I love you all and thank you for your support! Elder Richmond Happy mothers day!...yesterday, haha. Here in Cúcuta they don't celebrate Mothers Day the 2nd week of May, but the 4th week of May. It's because a long time ago a ship or train with presents had a problem and everything got destroyed so they moved it back 2 weeks. And it's stayed that way ever since. This week was pretty good. Oh and Elder Gómez and I will be together for another transfer. We were able to talk to more people in the street and set up appointments with them for this week. So, we should have a pretty solid week this week with new investigators and lessons. YAY!! Colombia is celebrating 50 years of the church this Wednesday, May 11th, so we are having a little meeting and doing service at a park in the morning and then having a open house at the chapel and then a Noche de Hermanamiento (Fellowship Night?) at night. So, we will be at the chapel from 4pm-8:30pm ish. I really hope that we will be able to find new people to teach with these activities. It was great being able to Skype and see everyone yesterday. I have to go. Thank you all for your love and support! Elder Richmond So, this week has been...fun? ha ha. Our washer hasn't gotten to our house yet :/ But that's not too bad. At the beginning of the week, we were struggling to have appointments but were putting many for the end of the week. I went to the other elders area for intercambios on Wednesday-Thursday. We then helped a member move on Thursday. Then on Friday, I was having knee and leg pain but I just thought it was from going up and down a lot of mountains lately. I woke up Saturday morning and I felt off and I had body pain. We went to lunch and then went back to the house so I could take some medicine and wait for it to kick in. So long story short, I have zika...yay. I stayed home and rested on Saturday, went to church on Sunday, and rested the rest of the day Sunday. I felt like I was hit by a truck and had a fever that went between 101 and 103.6. It was horrible, but I'm feeling better today. All I have is body pain. I've heard that it comes in waves but I really hope that doesn't happen to me. But on the bright side church attendance went up. When I got here it was 140, then 2 weeks later (after a multi stake (multi- country) conference) it was 90 and then yesterday it was 160. There is still a lot of work to do seeing that the attendance was at 210-220 consistently a year ago. Our ward is basically a third of Cúcuta geographically which mean there are a lot of people and that we will have to work very hard. The ward has some issues but it's in the process of fixing them at least. Something that I've learned during the mission is just how important home teaching and visiting teaching is. Every ward that I've been to has had many problems with completing this assignment and it is VITAL!! I hope all of you are completing your home teaching assignments. If not, there is still time to repent and do it. I love you all and thank you so much for all of the birthday wishes!!
